Behind every product you buy, every package delivered, and every grocery shelf stocked, there is a truck driver making it possible. In fact, trucks moved roughly 72.6% of the nation’s freight by weight in 2022, according to the American Trucking Associations. That staggering number shows just how much our economy depends on drivers. Truck Driver Appreciation Week is set aside each year to honor the hard work, dedication, and sacrifices of these men and women, but it is more than just a week. It is a reminder of how essential drivers are to our daily lives and to keeping America moving.
What & When Is Truck Driver Appreciation Week?
National Truck Driver Appreciation Week was first established in 1998 by the American Trucking Associations to formally recognize and celebrate the nearly 3.5 million professional truck drivers in the United States. The goal was to bring awareness to the crucial role drivers play in transporting goods safely, securely, and on time day in and day out. This year, Truck Driver Appreciation Week will take place from September 14–20, 2025.
Why Truck Driver Appreciation Week Matters More Than Ever
Truck drivers are the backbone of our supply chain. In recent years, their role has been tested like never before, through supply chain disruptions, labor shortages, rising fuel costs, and demanding schedules. Yet, drivers continue to deliver, not just goods, but reliability, resilience, and commitment.
Behind every product on a shelf is a driver who gave up time at home, navigated through the weather and traffic, and made sure your shipment arrived safely. Recognizing their contributions is not simply a formality, it is an acknowledgment of how much we all depend on them to go about our lives every single day.
